Antonia and Lucy co-founded Birmingham based collective, Small Encounters, with artists Charlotte Gregory and Jill Dowse.
Small Encounters was the name of the collective and the name of the collection of intimate and one-to-one performances the group produced. With a faded sideshow aesthetic, the performers and their tent-like pods offered curious pop-up encounters, in both urban and suburban environments. ‘Setting up shop’ for a day, and then gone the next, each piece offered a different and intimate mini-world for its audiences.
The project was developed and piloted in 2012 at Midlands Art Centre (mac) Birmingham, with support from artist Adrian Howells, and then performed for Lost and Found Festival in Manchester and for Pilot Sites at the Birmingham Hippodrome in 2014.
Death. A bit grim, isn't it. Morbid, macabre and even unmentionable, but does it have to be that way?
